Train To Your Lover is an alright release. I really liked them as a "Ska" band, but they work well doing Northern Soul.

Its very white northern soul though..

The Pepper Pots last album (Now) was produced by Binky Griptite, & I didn't think it sounded that "white." Even though this new album has been out for a couple of months or so, it's high on my "want to purchase" list.

there were hints of JA sonuds on "Now", on three songs i think.
there's none of it on "Train To Your Lover", this is 100% Motown.
As their website states:
"…..and the final mastering touch comes from the hands of the legendary Bob Ohlsson, Motown sound engineer during the classic period of the label -between 1965 and 1972"

LP version has nice looking gatefold sleave and it comes with download code, bit pricey, but highly recomended.

This intrigues me, do you care to comment further on this? I never viewed them as a soul outfit til Now! came out being as everything up til that point was strictly to the book JA Ska.

Just feel that their whole goal/ vibe was always looking past just the Ska thing. Sure their early work (http://www.thepepperpots.com/lover/discografia.php) was planted in JA/UK sounds the vibe they were giving off was distinctly not so. You don't have 3 girls singing and not look to Motown as inspiration. There was only ever a male/female duets or male vocal groups as major recording artists in JA music other than the i-threes (Rita Marley, Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths) while Motown pioneered the sound (http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/b ... group.html).

Right from the get go! Take a look at their first LP cover and title. While the music is JA influenced the imagery is anything but - more 60's Americana influenced which hints at the style and direction they wanted to take.

It was only 2 years between their first 2 albums and they themselves called it Soul Goes Ska - 2005 debut and 2007 Shake It album which had a second title "Soul Goes Ska" indicating a Soul band doing some Ska.

Their third album and everything since drives home the soul vibe The band's third album was produced and recorded by Binky Griptite, guitarist for The Dap-Kings, Sharon Jones and Amy Winehouse.
